Back in 2005 I was Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Castle Point, an Essex seat comprising Canvey Island and the "mainland" communities of Benfleet, Thundersley and Hadleigh. Although I got soundly beaten by Bob Spink MP, then a Tory and now an Independent (via a stint in UKIP), I enjoyed the campaign and made some great friends in the local Labour Party. However, there was always an awareness o...

Mr Spink, the MP for Castle Point, sits as an Independent MP in the House of Commons. The BBC wrongly acredited Mr Spink as a UKIP MP while reporting his support for Michael Martin, the Speaker who today announced he will be standing down in the wake of the MP expenses scandal.

As much as I hate the waste of money Early Day motions are they do provide me with amusement so I shouldn't complain. Bob Spink, Independent/UKIP depending on the day of the week, has tabled a motion that says, That this House notes there are over five million people in the UK with asthma and over one million of these are children; further notes that children with asthma may be excluded from acade...

It seems that Bob Spink no longer describes himself as a UKIP MP. Indeed, he says he has never been a member of the party, according to THIS article in his local Essex newspaper. How very strange. Do you think anyone has told UKIP? They list him on their website as a UKIP MP.

Note, if you will, this Parliamentary exchange yesterday: "Bob Spink: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will extend the boundary for exemption from the Dartford Crossing toll... Paul Clark: The purpose of the charge at the Dartford crossing is to tackle congestion..". Right. The Dartford tunnel as was has been around since 1963, and to my knowledge has always charged, so we can tak...

UKIP’s Dr Bob Spink MP very kindly agreed to do a Q&A session for Bloggers4UKIP and here it is, unedited and straight from the horses mouth: It’s now been 8 months since you left the Conservatives and joined UKIP. Do you ever regret making the move? Do you think you still stand a good chance of

UKIP's Dr Bob Spink MP very kindly agreed to do a Q&A session for Bloggers4UKIP and here it is, unedited and straight from the horses mouth: It's now been 8 months since you left the Conservatives and joined UKIP. Do you ever regret making the move? Do you think you still stand a good chance of getting re-elected? No regrets and as an Independent, I have a decent chance of winnin...

Interesting that the UKIP MP Bob Spink is taking flak today for the Opposition losing the debate over Menzies Campbell amendment which proposed setting aside the Government's motion time-delaying the setting up of the yesterday in the Commons. Bob and the Lib Dems, that is. Spink took the view that: We have two privileges to uphold: one is the privilege of this House, but another importa...
