This is fun The Daisey thing has got picked up by The Guardian and I’m mentioned in it. It’s really rather fun in the comments: we’ve even got someone flat out insisting that UK GDP per capita in 1600, or Chinese in 1978, could not possibly be only $950 a year because it’s impossible to survive on £2

I got a reply to my Freedom of Information request about stamp duty relief for first time buyers. I asked… How much has HMRC spent in finding out if someone has previously bought a house or flat in the UK. How much has HMRC spent in finding out if someone has previously bought a house

Chris Huhne has just made the briefest statement outside his Central London flat. He has confirmed that he is stepping down as Energy and Climate Change secretary. He protested his innocence and stated that he was confident that a jury will find him not guilty. His statement in full is: The CPS decision to launch

A touching story epitomising the compassionate side of politics reaches The Voice via Dominic Hannigan: Prompted by Merthyr councillor Amy Kitcher, wellwishers from all over the borough have come to the aid of Paul Thomas, who was living in a flat in conditions he described as a “living nightmare”. And the dad-of-two, who is battling

Incredible events in the chamber today. An absolute sensation at PMQS. For the first time since last summer, Ed Miliband got through the session without triggering talk of a leadership crisis. There was gloomy news aplenty to dwell on. Debts soaring; growth flat-lining; dole queues snaking back through blighted high streets and bankrupt business parks. The Labour leader chose to wallop Cameron wit...

Bloody Hell, Germany’s a strange country So here I am in Freiberg, getting stuff sorted out. Rent a flat, buy a bed, get lamps in, all this sort of stuff. Yesterday, went and bought desk, kitchen table, shelves. Well, I say desk and kitchen table. Two cheap doors on four trestles, no point in wasting the shareholders’ money. So I’d wandered

Calling Mr. Luke, Calling Mr. Luke I know this street very well. Used to work in one of the restaurants you can see up on the high pavement, at another just up the little alleyway there. Bought my flat from the estate agents you can see (upside down, when the altercation is going on) at the other end of the street.

Phyllis Dixey - 1914 to 1964 - Striptease Artiste - lived here in flat number 15. - The wording proposed last November for a new British Heritage blue plaque, but it proved controversial. I only just came across this story. Since then, I don't know what has happened. Is this plaque actually going to materialise? What it says at the bottom of this recent news item, about another proposed blue ...

Eastern Germany doesn’t have laundrettes This was something I found really rather odd in my recent trip to the ‘Ore Mountains. I did everything right of course, I’ve done this turn up in a new country and get organised thing before. You’ve no references, no contacts, no credit record, but you’ve got to find a flat, rent it, get the

For us all, the home we live in is one of the most important factors in how we live our lives. Whether it be a house, a flat, shared accommodation, or – as it is for almost a quarter of a million people in the UK – a ‘Park Home’. Park Homes are modern, bungalow-style
