Opinion: What happens if Salmond loses the independence referendum? There are clear signs that support for independence in Scotland is volatile and that the current debate is weakening it. Issues, such as defence, uncertainties over any financial settlement – not least because RBS is as Scottish as a glass of Glenmorangie – plus the normal fear of voters faced with a big step into

So many of London’s £1m-plus houses are occupied by workshy immigrant families of ten that swathes of Maida Vale have been transformed into one vast welfare ghetto, with Afsoomali emerging as the dominant tongue on street after street. And huge numbers of City Boys aren’t that fussed about losing their jobs in investment banking because, let’s

How odd this is for a capitalist society If you add together nonfinance executives, “financial professions”, real estate, and lawyers, you’ve got more than 70 percent of the total; plus some of the other categories are probably essentially business executives too. What can you say about a President who will do or say anything to achieve his one and only true goal? Giving Barack Obama the rare benefit of the doubt while remaining a skeptic on the subject, I will say that his goal is not to destroy the United States socially, economically and militarily. That regardless of the fact that those things are collateral damage, his true goals are power and reelecti...

Senator Tom Coburn Reveals How Your Tax Dollars Are Wasted... Senator Tom Coburn, MD (R-OK) is one of my favorite senators, and one who is unfortunately keeping his word to his constituents and retiring after this term. He just published a report about a number of ways your tax dollars are outright wasted, and he didn't even include the Obama's $4 million plus vacay in the most expensive hotel in Hawaii. “Video games, robot dragons, Christmas...

Coalition tensions over Europe are again threatening to be the story this morning. Nick Clegg has told The Guardian's Patrick Wintour that Britain has 'signalled we are happy for them [the Eurozone plus group of countries] to use EU institutions' to enforce any new treaty they agree between themselves. This is a striking claim given that David Cameron has not publicly said that he w...

“Putting Meryl’s performance aside – I’ve raved about it enough, plus it was only a pie, and there was no custard – you do not get any sense of Thatcher’s political coming of age. Why did she believe what she believed, and why so vehemently? Why go to war, for example, over an island no one in Britain cared about? You also get no sense of...

European Commission President José Manuel Barroso told MEPs that the demands the UK put forward at last week’s EU summit represented a “risk to the integrity of the internal market”, adding that what came out of the meeting of EU leaders was “not an agreement at 17-plus, but an agreement at 27-minus.

Would someone please hack my phone? Given that I’ve lost it somewhere, very rarely use it when I haven’t lost it and certainly don’t understand how to retrieve voicemails given that it’s all in Portuguese, it would actually be useful if someone would. Plus I cuold do with a couple of hundred grand. Promise not to leave my family for the
