So claims Peter Oborne, something which appears to have got the Tories into a right tizzy. Stephen Tall at Lib Dem Voice has debunked most of it so I will try to avoid repeating what he has said. It should also be pointed out that Clegg in particular has been linked to rumours

Peter Oborne writes in tomorrow's Daily Mail: So what should we do? One part of the answer is to cherish those politicians who really are honest and decent. It is important that this number includes David Cameron. Top of the list, however, is the wonderful Lib Dem Treasury spokesman Vince Cable, who claimed next to nothing in allowances, bought no flats, stole no taxpayers' money and mad...

If there is substance to Peter Oborne's conjecture in this morning's Mail that there is a deal in the offing for Brown to bring the Lib Dems into government, this could be Brown's and Clegg's biggest miscalculation to date. The Lib-Lab pact negotiated between David Steel and Callaghan in 1978 didn't save Sunny Jim and neither will such a pact save Brown. And in 1979 the Li...

Whether the Lib Dem president Tim Farron is ploughing a determined furrow towards eventual leadership we can't know, but he does provide an alternative source of authority to the current beleaguered leader, Nick Clegg, and was far more rapturously received at the Lib Dem conference, as the Telegraph's Peter Oborne points out. If Clegg is doomed by the Coalition, then it is Farron who is most likel...

I don't think it is the done thing to talk about attending Private Eye lunches. But I promised Peter Oborne to pay homage to the Freedom of Information Campaigner, Heather Brooke, who I met for the first time. Without her campaigning tenacity the MPs expenses scandal would have never come to light. When Oborne arrived at the lunch he immediately threw himself at Heather's feet and kissed...

Campaign focus: Beating the Tories in Harlow A week ago today, it was polling day in a key by-election in Harlow, a key Lib Dem / Tory marginal. The result was a win for the Lib Dems from the Tories on a swing of 10.5%. Here Lorna Spenceley, Lib Dem parliamentary spokeswoman for Harlow, tells Lib Dem Voice how it happened… In one

Peter Oborne’s column today is explosive stuff. He writes that secret talks have already begun between Labour and Liberal Democrat figures about a possible coalition. He reports that as a sweetener to any possible deal the Labour Whips office is already drumming up support for Ming Campbell as the next Speaker. Oborne points to an article by Vince Cable suggesting that a national government ...

The Deputy Prime Minister's passion for constitutional change has been written off as harmless Lib Dem pottiness - but it could do immense damage to our system of government, says Peter Oborne.

Peter Oborne has recorded a series of short radio essays on conservatism. The first part is really excellent - as good a thumbnail sketch (it's 15 minutes) as you're ever likely to happen across. Listen to it before it disappears...
