A new poll by Irish company Red C, commissioned by Open Europe, has found that 71% of Irish voters are against a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, and that, of those who expressed an opinion, 62% would vote "no" That would mean the "no" lead would increase from 6 points in the recent referendum to a commanding 24 point lead in a second vote.

Judges at the German Constitutional Court are tomorrow due to rule on the compatibility of the Lisbon Treaty with the German Constitution. Ahead of the decision, Open Europe, in collaboration with the Institute for Free Enterprise in Berlin, has published a new poll which shows that 77% of Germans want to be given a say on the Lisbon Treaty in a national referendum.

Under the headline "24 to 1" Liberation Brussels correspondent Jean Quatremer argues on his blog that ?the recent poll showing that 71% of Irish people are opposed to a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty has not had much impact in European capitals, since the wording of the question indicated that the vote would be on the same text.

The Irish Times reports that Irish support is growing for the Lisbon Treaty with a further swing to the Yes camp in recent months as the country’s economic situation has deteriorated. An Irish Times/TNS mrbi poll shows that 51 per cent would now vote Yes, with 33 per cent saying they would vote No, and 16 per cent undecided.

The Irish Times reports on a poll released yesterday, conducted the day after the Irish Lisbon Treaty referendum, which has found that the majority of the Irish public are happy with the result of the Lisbon Treaty referendum, including one in 10 of those who voted Yes.

In an interview with yesterday’s Irish Independent, Irish Europe Minister Dick Roche said a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty is “the appropriate response” for Ireland. He said: "My personal view is that a referendum is the appropriate response to the position we are in.
