Background: last week I wrote a short article on Lib Dem Voice about the ippr’s new report on surveillance and data protection, pointing out how it had been funded and lamenting the fact that Lord Ashdown has, in effect, been used to legitimise the argument. This resulted in a furious response from Lord Ashdown

Article by Stephen Tall from Lib Dem Voice: This is a slightly interesting article, because it confirms that the Lib Dem campaign in Oldham and Saddleworth has seen the sort of all out mobilisation for a by-election that the Lib Dems are famous for. There is clearly no reluctance from Lib Dem activists to defend the record

There’s a curious article in today’s Times by the paper’s chief political correspondent Sam Coates. Here’s how the report starts: Voters are abandoning the Liberal Democrats in parts of their South West stronghold as dislike of Gordon Brown boosts support for the Conservatives. A tour by The Times of Lib Dem constituencies in the region found

Two Lib Dem victories in South West by-elections yesterday. Voters in Newquay South were electing a new town councillor – a straight fight between  Sandy Carter for the Lib Dems and Rose Knowlson for the Tories. The result was a decisive Lib Dem victory, with Sandy Carter securing 444 votes.  Thirty short of the party’s tally in

Lib Dem Voice hosting company Becomes Livid Isn't that absolutely typical. The morning I post a long article about Lib Dem Voice with lots of links, and somebody forgets to pay the bill so it gets turned off. I wonder if Mark Pack's "Gearbox" column is going to be late? The "Become Livid" anagram of Lib Dem Voice seems pertinent suddenly.

A few days ago, I quickly penned a brief article for Lib Dem Voice about a new ippr report which amounts to a paean to the database state. What the coverage about it did not mention was that the report was funded by what amounts to the ICT industry which will be the main

Well done to those excellent bloggers who won the Lib Dem blog awards this year. I have my reservations about the rather insular nature of the Lib Dem blogosphere, but I personally think the winners are very worthy and are a great example of what good Lib Dem blogs should be like. In the coming 12 months the Lib Dem blogosphere needs to now become less navel gazing, less about talking to the conve...

Lib Dem Voice mentioned here on Monday the Financial Times’s report on the political pitfalls of waste and recycling collections, highlighting the electoral troubles it caused the Lib Dem group in Waverley in 2007. In today’s paper, Waverely Lib Dem councillor Celia Savage, has a letter published in today’s paper, noting: Collecting waste on alternate weeks
