I’m trying to sum up how I feel having watched the video on the Guardian website of Ian Tomlinson being bit by a policeman with a baton while he had his hands in his pockets and was walking away from them. I’d say anger, but I think the honest answer is: panic. I watched it

The video uncovered by the Guardian and apparently shot by a New York banker, shows Tomlinson walking along slowly, hands in pockets, away from a line of police who are handling dogs. They are moving forward behind him, when one apparently gets impatient, lunges forward and sends Tomlinson sprawling to the ground. There is an

An extraordinary thing happened last night; political bloggers of the left and right united in condemnation of this story which is also on The Guardian front page today. The Guardian has damning video footage of the last moments of Ian Tomlinson. Nothing could be clearer. Ian is shown walking away from a police line calmly and with his hands in his pockets. He is making his way home with his head down, tired from the day. A police officer attacks him from behind in a completely unprovoked action. There are no protesters near the officer at the time and Mr Tomlinso...

Guardian video after about 2 minutes Are Toynbee’s comments an attack or an excuse? In a New Year video the veteran Guardian columnist, Polly Toynbee, makes some highly pointed comments about Gordon Brown’s communication capabilities which I have not seen picked up elsewhere. She says of the PM “He’s not a very good speech maker. He doesn’t have
