Council workers in Birmingham have threatened strike action over plans to impose pay cuts on 5,000 employees to solve an equal pay crisis. Trade union Unison said it received 100% support from its members for a ballot on industrial action over the pay cuts. Birmingham City Council this week rubber-stamped plans to impose a new Single Status pay structure on all staff .

I have just got back from Birmingham. The conference has been great and the people of Birmingham have been wonderful. The problem this evening has been the rail service. I caught the 18:03 from Birmingham New Street. The train had run out of tea, coffee and sandwiches. I was on that train for over two hours before I was due to change at Doncaster. There were others who were travelling to Newcastle...

A new initiative to provide support for victims of domestic violence and forced marriages has been launched in Birmingham. Throughcare Housing and Support is a charity project that provides accommodation and support for victims, and has already received backing from the Police Domestic Violence Unit, the Crown Prosecution Service as well as local and national government.
