The one thing that has been worse than the BNP winning two seats in the European Parliament today has been the endless hand-wringing and excuses made on behalf of the electorate by mainstream politicians. Last night, the Tories, Lib Dems and Labour were queueing up to come up with excuses for why so many

With another poll showing the Tories short of the lead they need to be sure of a majority—ICM for the Sunday Telegraph has the Tories on 38, Labour on 31 and the Lib Dems on 21—we are going to hear even more about a hung parliament and the role of the Lib Dems; I can’t remember any Lib Dem leader getting as much media attention as Nick Clegg has had these past four days. But if t...

A couple of weeks ago, LDV started a new poll based on a Hung Parliament scenario floated by PoliticalBetting.com’s Mike Smithson - that the next election might result in the Tories winning the popular vote, and Labour winning the most seats. What, he asked, would the Lib Dems do in such a situation? We turned

We are promised nasty words about the Conservatives and their new anti federal allies in the European Parliament from Mr Huhne. These federalist Lib dems, who are always criticising Tories for not being friendly enough to fellow European democratic parties,

Two more polls have just come out, YouGov for the Sunday Times and BPIX for the Mail on Sunday. The two polls both point towards a hung parliament with the Tories as the largest party and both put the Lib Dems in second. It is reported that an "anti-racism" campaigner has emerged as the candidate who could stop the British National Party chairman Nick Griffin winning a seat in the European Parliament next month. Peter Cranie has been chosen by the Green Party to stand in the North-west, where the BNP's hopes of winning its first seats in a nationwide election are highest. Respect, the left-wing party headed b...

Last weekend in Harrogate, on being asked about the prospect of a hung parliament, most Lib Dem MPs sang like the yellow canaries they use as their logo. The tune was pretty much the same whether the canary was plump or thin (junior or senior elected member of the mother of all parliaments) and it went like this: they were very, very wary of going into coalition with Tories (their grassroots are m...
