Asked whether the Prime Minister was worried about the prospect of several thousand job losses in Royal Mail, the PMS replied that the Royal Mail had set out their position on that story. It was his understanding that the Royal Mail had said they had no plans for 16,000 job cuts. In terms of staffing at Royal Mail, it was an operational matter for the company and the PMS would leave it to them to ...

Ritchie’s got a book out. Impeccably researched and packed with new insights, this groundbreaking book exposes financial capitalism’s best kept secret.” John Christiansen, Director, Tax Justice Netork International Secretariat, London. The new Globe and Mail best-seller list is out. For the seventh week in a row, Shakedown is on it -- holding strong at fourth place. Michael Ignatieff's book is at third place -- apparently he sold just 120 more books last week than I did! If he promises to read my book on freedom of speech -- a true liberal value, by the way -- I promise in return to read his book!

Spread widely through the media today is the latest development in that long-running saga, the "privatisation" of the Royal Mail. It is covered in The Times which warns that there might be "50,000 jobs at risk" in break-up of Royal Mail, and by The Daily Telegraph which tells us that a "£3billion Royal Mail sell-off could be agreed today." From this we learn that the "state-owned firm that r...
