Newsnight saw Paxo give fellow journalist Andrew Rawnsley a robust interview, but the best part of the programme was a frenetically angry John Prescott. I love hearing John Prescott talk about bullying and losing your temper. He virtually spat out his hatred of Rawnsley, condemning him for writing a book to make money. Rawnsley had a nice comeback, of course, when he referenced Prescott's own memo...

Look, I know he's come to deliver us from evil and all that, but really, Dave, sod off: Tory leader David Cameron has defended expenses claims for his second home and said he would do the job for "half the money, twice the money or no money". "Frankly, I love this job because I love doing public service, working for my constituents, trying to hold the government to account, hopefully one day leadi...

Aristotle was right: you can’t make money out of money Amazing really: entirely missing the point that we all did start making money around 1750 when we did realise that as money has a time value you can indeed make money out of money. Next week, Ritchie’s GP wife lectures us on why Galen is

Nanny's chums in Scotland have discovered another way of wasting taxpayers' money, by publishing a 140 page "diversity handbook" and distributing it to 7000 members of the police. Nothing wrong with that, in theory, if the book contains some genuine insights and addresses known issues that are negatively impacting policing then it may well be money well spent. The trouble is the book doe...

Money, money, money Money, it can’t buy you love and nor does it appear that it can buy you success as demonstrated by Andy Kerr’s register of interest page. In his ultimately unsuccessful quest to become the leader of the Labour MSP group at Holyrood, the East Kilbride MSP, and party spokesman on Finance, amassed an impressive £13,725 in donations to his fighting fund compared to the £10,951....

There is no government money. There is taxpayers' money and there is borrowed money. Obnoxious wastrels such as Charlie Gilmour can riot but tax receipts of £548bn and public expenditures of £697bn means his misplaced sense of entitlement is unaffordable. There is no fairy gold. The money belongs to the people.

It wasn't, in truth, the most elevating or entertaining debate I have witnessed in the Scottish Parliament. However, it wasn't as hideous as some had feared. MSPs were discussing their own money: not their salaries but the allowances which assist them to carry out their job by, for example, employing support staff. It was, mercifully, brief: just a little more than half an hour. But it still scarc...
