The twists and turns of this story are many and I have been about to start a blog several times to update folk but now here at least is the good news - and I have to applaud particularly the massive amounts of hard work of folk like Andy Reed, John Marjoram and Robin Craig for this huge success. It is a really huge, huge achievement of which we can all be proud. The message from the Town was

Does the election of two BNP MEPs and the success of the far right elsewhere in Europe mean we are facing the threat of fascism? Or is this just a protest vote that will quickly fade? Leading historians give their verdicts Michael BurleighAuthor of The Third Reich, A New History We should be wary about the rise of the far right but not panicky. Even though I write commentary pieces for the Daily M...

A few weeks ago I suggested that the Glenroths by-election could be a litmus test for Brown to judge an early election. Certainly the result will come as a huge boost to Brown. After one of the worst results in modern history for the Labour party at a council level, and loosing several by-elections, this represents the first electoral success for Brown. I was sitting in the chamber yesterday awaiting the arrival of Speaker Martin – and thinking of history. I was remembering other 'rotten' Parliaments that I had yawned at in my school history lessons – bored and not understanding the import of history – that it was once reality. Ironic – really. And then Speaker Martin rose to make his statement. Whilst I had called for him to go last Sund...

Just one advice ... ignore the MSM completely. It's one huge smoke screen, deflecting attention away from what's really going on. History just happened and we missed it ...! [

Fast on the heels of his grassroots, the normally thoughtful Michael Gove has also launched into the "British history isn't being taught in schools" debate. Paul Waugh asked Gove for his list of recommended history topics, and a quick glance reveals a list of what comprises much of the current Years 7 to 9 curriculum, as I've already pointed out. I don't necessarily disagree with Gove's priorities...
