Two gains from the Conservatives in town council by-elections (majorities of 16 and 19 – a healthy reminder of the importance of working for every vote) in Winsford and Chatteris. Congratulations to Diane Bladry and Alfred Theron. Thanks also to Chris Howes, who stood in the one district by-election, coming second in a Tory held

The Conservatives and Ulster Unionist Party have confirmed plans to fight elections in Northern Ireland on a joint ticket and under a new name of 'Ulster Conservatives and Unionists - New Force'. After much deliberation but seemingly without the involvement of Sylvia Hermon MP, the Ulster Unionists have sucumbed to the enchantment of David Camerons's Tory party and decided to join &...

Part of the reason that the Conservatives did so badly in 1997 and 2001 was because a lot of people who had voted Conservative in 1992 stayed at home during those two elections. Pot Noodle man heads Conservative’s healthy food policy The Conservatives today confirmed that they would not ban advertising of junk food, and have appointed the head of the company behind Pot Noodle to lead their healthy food policy. But although they plan to give the green light to unhealthy foods, the easy to understand 'traffic light' system of food labelling is likely to be the first casualty of a healthy food policy written by Unilever...

The news that the Ulster Unionists and the Conservatives have come to an agreement to stand under a joint ticket in future elections must surely be welcomed by everyone. I blogged about the initiative HERE in July... Slowly but surely Northern Ireland politics is emerging from their sectarian past. The Tory/UUP deal may even encourage a few Tory minded Catholics to transfer their allegiances. It m...

However, while the Labour figure was up 35%
