Jack lost his iPhone last night. He has therefore been stuck at home on his Playstation 3 all day. - An (early twenties, male) customer overheard in a coffee bar in the East End yesterday afternoon. I can understand how the world outside the front door is a scary, scary place if it is just you, completely unaugmented....

Two months ago, that may well have been the final nail in Gordon Brown's Prime Ministerial coffin. But the political world is a completely different place now. And while Brown will undoubtedly be disappointed to have lost - especially given that he (and his wife) took such a key role in the campa...

People have for some time been saying that there was one thing that would save the Playstation 3 from failure, and that thing was its blu-ray disk player. However, it seems that instead of Blu-Ray being its saviour, it may well be the thing that kills the PS3. With the collapse of HD-DVD, the only rival format for high definition DVDs a few months ago, it seemed Sony had a clear run and was theref...

Last year, I wrote about my grandfather's brother Hugh, who was killed in the First World War. When I was a kid, in the 1970s, I remember Hugh's picture having pride of place on the wall of my grandfather's rarely used front room. My sister's daughter has been doing a school project on the First World War so I rooted out the copies of Grandad's and Hugh's letters from the front. Among them was m...

The map that should shame Apple If you are stupid enough to buy an iPhone (as I was last summer), you are stuck with O2. The iPhone relies on 3G technology - so guess which network has the worst national 3G coverage according to Ofcom? That's right. O2. Well done Apple. Blogger Eric Raymond - who plainly is not on Steve Jobs' Christmas card send-out list, points out the less-than-stellar launch of the new version of the iPhone. What is noteworthy, however, is that at least when a product is brought to market and there are problems with it, then as demonstrated by the Eric Raymonds of this world, a swarm of bloggers, professional product evaluation writers an...

When someone completely blanks and ignores you, do you think: a) That clearly you’ve lost a lot of weight recently, so must look very different. b) That you’ve mortally offended them. c) That maybe they just didn’t see you standing right in front of them or hear you saying things to them.
