Some one help me, why does Camden council keep paying money to local celebs to launch campaigns? In September this year Camden used it’s recession fund (actually money from the government, called the Working Neighbourhoods Fund) to pay an undisclosed amount to restaurant critic and Camden-ite Giles Coren to promote local high streets as part of the widely-panned ‘Love Camden’ cam...

Guido has the text of a wonderful ranty email sent by Times columnist Giles Coren to his sub editors HERE. And all because they deleted the word 'a' from the final sentence of his erudite column. Just as well these sort of things never happen at the Telegraph...

I’ve been surprised recently by the comments on my post about Giles Coren… Anyway, he’s written another brilliant piece (linked to by Schneider) about the US Open tennis. Take a look (here).

Look, I know he's come to deliver us from evil and all that, but really, Dave, sod off: Tory leader David Cameron has defended expenses claims for his second home and said he would do the job for "half the money, twice the money or no money". "Frankly, I love this job because I love doing public service, working for my constituents, trying to hold the government to account, hopefully one day leadi...

If Guido is right about this being genuine then I'm full of admiration for Giles Coren. I mean, who but the truly brave would risk the wrath of sub-editors for generations to come. Having worked in magazines and newspapers off and on, I know that the subs at the Times will be itching to get their revenge. I'll be on the look out for acrostics.Incidentally, I read the piece in question when it was ...

This is a bit of a random post to write but hey! Over the past two weeks I have been in something like 4 different restaurants and it got me thinking about what actually makes a good restaurant. Over the summer I have been working at a restaurant in Charlton Kings, which I consider to be an excellent place to dine. The things to consider when dinning out are price, value for money, service and qua...

I'm not one for BBC-bashing, but the Today Programme's 08:20 item on new ration packs for soldiers in Afghanistan turned into an exercise in bad taste. Booking Giles Coren to witter on about the new meal packs probably seemed like a good idea in the planning meeting. But the reality was just crass. "I've got menu fatigue - from eating in all of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants," trilled Coren when it w...

Via Cassilis, I read this article from 'The Times.' In it Giles Coren lambastes Polly Toynbee and David Walker's new book, 'Unjust Rewards.' The prejudice and jealousy they show helps keep class warfare going in Britain; the sort of class warfare Conservatives had to endure in the Crewe and Nantwich by-election. Coren's article is brilliant. A must read.

There is no such thing as Government Money. There is only Taxpayers money. I think it is time that this fact was brought home to many of the companies and organisations now in receipt of handouts, bailouts, support funds and loans being doled out by the Government in amounts never before dreamt of. The total amount of money that this government has given and guaranteed to the Banks, with the full ...
