Bristol Convention of the Left welcomes you to a day of decentralised discussion in Easton Community Centre. The Prime Minister has outlined a bold vision for transforming England's public services. In a Cabinet Office report “Excellence and fairness: Achieving world class public services” published today, he argues that although public services have improved dramatically over the past decade they are not yet world-class and a new stage of reform is required.

The simple fact is that since 1997 much of the massive increase in public spending has gone not on improvements in public services or better consumption of public goods and services, but on increasing the private consumption of those employed in the public sector. Always did like this particular economist.
