My Centre Right post on Friday, drawing attention to the apparent nostalgia for the USSR held by Compass Chairman Neal Lawson, drew some interesting reactions from lefties. One commenter denied the link, saying "Any nostalgia for the Eastern Bloc is...

Over the next few days we're going to be trying quite hard to plug the event itself, which goes far wider than just Compass Youth people; you can help by navigating to ...

And here it is, the first - I’m guessing - of many which consist entirely of a link to something by me on Samizdata, as prophesied here.  And as with that earlier link, this one is to a piece about cricket. Back in 2000 the chancellor Gordon Brown rejected calls to restore the link between earnings and the basic state pension, saying too much money would then go to pensioners who are well-off. This link was cut by the Tory government and used the same reason for doing so. Labour are happy for pensioners to be means tested. Plaid Cymru are still calling for the link to be restored, so there is no need...

Worse than that, Compass are innumerate. Here is their calculation of how much you get on the minimum wage. Calculation: £44.16 per day. This works out as £220.80 per week or £11481.60 per year. 5 days a week, 40 hours per week (age 25). That link there takes you to the TUC calculator which, when you put in

Is the Pope a Catholic? Here's a link to a link/quotation but never mind. If you follow the link you get not only this and more: The pope has generated a bit of controversy.First, he permitted congregations to go back to the old custom of praying in Latin. (More about that later.) Then he announced that only the Catholic Church qualifies as a real church. Protestants, as far as the pope is concerned, simply don&rsqu...

The link was removed in 1980, and ministers have pledged to restore it in 2012, but union leaders say the change must come sooner. Pensions increase every April in line with the level of the retail prices index the previous September. Since this ...
