Yes. That's what the post from July 8 was. It was very disappointing because Maliki did in fact make such statement and it was reported the next day by numerous local and Arab sources. It was probably a statement that he made without enough thinking or without the approval of other powerful members of his coalition. Anyway, it's been 20 weeks since the election and there's still no sign of a

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia TYMOSHENKO announced on Wednesday that she had formed a new parliamentary coalition with allies of President Viktor YUSHCHENKO. Ukraine's parliament had been without a governing coalition since September, when the previous coalition broke down after YUSHCHENKO's party withdrew from the coalition in protest of TYMOSHENKO's support of an opposition measu...

Carwyn Jones on Wales Home today: “I am not the candidate who was opposed to the coalition, but nor am I the candidate whom our coalition partners would prefer.” I thought it was well known that Carwyn was not against the coalition? Indeed was he not the candidate that was briefing against his own party in favour of it?

The coalition has had a bad day today. It has been knocked all over the park following the IFS report that labeled the Budget regressive. Now, I’m sure the coalition will say that if it had to pick a day to take a hammering, one towards the end of August would be what they would have chosen. But I think there are five lessons that the coalition needs to learn from today if it is to navigate ...

A mistaken diagnosis that leads to mistaken and damaging policies: an invitation to Liberal Democrats to reflect on coalition policy before they meet in Liverpool in September. The coalition government is committed to urgent fiscal retrenchment. Measures agreed between the coalition partners mean that the coalition has adopted £6 billion of ‘early’/Conservative public sector spen...

I notice that Jackie Ashley has been calling for a coalition in the Guardian yesterday, in echos of Marquand. The Liberal Democrats are a party with no social obligations (or indeed philosophical ones, it so often seems), and as such, at least under First Past the Post, there should be no coalition, even if that means we have to lose. That said, I still think that they're a lot better than To...

Almost two years exactly ago, during the tortuous coalition negations I made this comment: The only thing that would make me support a Red-Green coalition would be a guarantee that the Government of Wales Act 2006 will be amended to give Full Law Making powers to the Assembly without the need for a referendum Others disagreed, they thought that the Red-Green coalition could both make the coalition...
