Hilary Benn famously fought the Leeds Central by-election campaign that gave him a seat in parliament on the slogan ‘a Benn but not a Bennite’. Given that even Tony Benn’s offspring feels the need to emphasise repudiation of his old man’s politics, it’s safe to pronounce that particular 30 year old brand of leftism completely

Earlier this month I interviewed Tony Benn for Total Politics. Here's how I described the experience in last week's New Statesman... Thirty years ago I regarded Tony Benn as the greatest threat to Britain outside the Soviet Union. Nowadays we agree on Europe, the constitution and threats to civil liberties. I interviewed him last week for the next issue of Total Politics in the endearing...

Twittering With Tony Benn One part of the Tony Benn interview I did yesterday, which won't be appearing in Total Politics, concerned the attempt to fake his identity on Twitter. I thought my blogreaders might enjoy this exchange in which I try to explain the joys of Twitter and Tony Benn givs his views on blogging. ID: What do you make of Twitter? TB: Someone said I was on it. Someone had pretended they were me. I got...

Iain Dale has uploaded a wonderful interview with Tony Benn, which was part of his election coverage. Other politicians interviewed are referenced on his site. I love Tony Benn he's such a breathe of fresh air. You can always count on him to tell it like it is. With all the lies and spin by the shovelful lately, it so nice to hear just honest speaking.

This afternoon I will be interviewing Tony Benn for the next issue of Total Politics. It's another one of my "in conversation" style interviews, where the answers are printed verbatim. If you were me, and asking the question, what would you ask him?

Uplifting to see someone in the MSM who shares my contempt for Tony Benn. I doubt they'd have had the balls to put this in the Comment section of the print edition, mind you. Normally I’m against capital punishment. But I do sometimes wonder whether we should make an exception for MPs. Especially when I’m reading interviews with Tony Benn. ...

Gordon Brown's unlikely soulmate Andy Porter's scoop about Shaun Woodward having a ringside seat in the Downing Street bunker is intriguing. It creates the most unlikely political pairing since Denis Healey campaigned for Tony Benn in the Chesterfield by-election in 1984 (in those days Labour used to win by-elections) and shamelessly claimed that he and Benn (a man he loathed) were the Torvill and Dean of British politics.Shaun W...

In the last couple of days we have been contacted by Josh Benn, Tony Benn’s son, and Tony’s publicist at Random House asking for us to surrender the fake twitter account in Tony’s name. That’s because the fake account now has only one tweet and it’s a link to Labour Matters. It’s not illogical to

Tony Benn will still be Updating his Website in 2005 One more time: Here's Tony Benn talking about the Internet (interviewed by Pressureworks Website): Benn: You have to use the technologies available. In the old days you shouted at a public meeting and a few people heard you. Nowadays if you can get on a microphone, on camera, on a website, you can speak to the world. I think the Internet and satellite television are extraordinary! And again, ...

It appears that Damian Green was arrested and held for 9 hours and his offices in the Commons were searched because he had been receiving leaked information that embarrassed the government.  This seems a completely unacceptable misuse of police powers and contempt of Parliament. (Tony Benn was v good on this). It seems to me that if any Minister or the Speaker authorised this, or knew about i...
