At 2pm today in Sennen Parish Church, a mile from Land's End, flowers will be laid on the grave of a remarkable woman, and there will be a fly-past, hinting at what the commemoration is for. We are very familiar...

The Church of England is making heavy weather of women bishops. Of course they had to approve women bishops. They made the crucial decision when they voted for women priests. It makes no sense to say that women can hold any pastoral position

Am happy about this, esp as I am one of those who regard women in ministry as "Biblical". After all, depending on how you define the priesthood or what constitutes a church, who was it who first proclaimed the Risen Lord to the Church? In any case, as I mentioned before in-depth, I think that if one is for women priests, or even tolerates their presence, then why object to women Bishops! And if yo...

Church of England votes to allow women bishops The Church of England's ruling General Synod has voted to consecrate women as bishops and approved a code of practice aimed at reassuring opponents. Following women priests in 1994, this is quite logical.Conservative MP and Synod member Robert Key, who supported the reforms, said afterwards it was time for the Church to move beyond 'navel-gazing'. He added: 'It is a good day for the Church of Engl...

Maureen Dowd Is Seriously, Seriously Confused MoDo is at it again...now she's comparing the way Saudi women are treated with the way Catholic women are treated, and using it as a platform to bash the Church: How could such spirited women [Saudi females], smart and successful on every other level, acquiesce in their own subordination? I was puzzling over that one when it hit me: As a Catholic woman, I was doing the same thing. I, too, bel...

Sticking with the Church of England, its admission of women to its episcopate would be catastrophic for witness within our national life to the classical Christianity that is, as much as anything else, the basis of all three political traditions. Independent research has found very large proportions of the women among the Church of England’s clergy to be doubters of or disbelievers in absolutely...

Don’t throw it all away Today I was in a meeting with the women’s network at the TUC where we were given a presentation on the role of women in trade union history. It was fascinating to find out how much of labour history excluded women’s voices and yet, how vital a role, women played in

Women in politics - 'little more than window dressing'? While Christianity has traditionally taught the equality of souls for God and the world to come, it has manifestly perpetuated an inequality of the sexes in the Church and the present world. Historically, the Church has been a patriarchal institution based on an anthropology in which man is the ‘head’ and woman subordinate. Augustine of Hippo helpfully explained: ‘Woman does not ...

The rights of woman: How far have they advanced? It was in a dingy socialist meeting hall a century ago in Copenhagen that women from 17 countries gathered and launched the idea of a day which would champion the rights of women. All over the world this weekend women are marching, celebrating and protesting, not least in London where last night thousands of people thronged Trafalgar Square to mark the 100th International Women's Day.
