Please disregard the football-related metaphor in the heading (not my choice of words), but here is my CiF piece on the Haltemprice and Howden by-election. It would appear that my analysis is pretty much the same as Stephen Tall's - i.e. Clegg was right to back Davis but failed to press his advantage home: However unjustified, the

After the humiliation of Labour coming in behind the Greens and BNP to lose its deposit in Henley last night, here's a frivolous Friday afternoon thought regarding the Haltemprice and Howden by-election.Given the fact that there are 26 candidates standing, it would be technically possible for the winning candidate to lose their deposit. In other words, if the votes were to be spread pretty evenly ...

When the good people of Haltemprice and Howden consider who they wish to vote for on Thursday they need to bear a few things in mind. The issues on which this by-election were based hinged around the belief that "British Civil Liberties" were being undermined. The English Democrats believe that the issues run much deeper than that and that the plight of the people of England under all three parties,...

Amidst everything else in the news coverage I've noticed a BBC News reporter running through the various parties who aren't going to be standing in the Haltemprice and Howden by-election, including the Scottish National Party! Now being a stereotypical southerner I can't get away with claiming to know anything about geography north of the Watford Gap, but I was always under the impression Haltempri...

Turnout in Haltemprice and Howden was a measly 34 per cent, less than half of what it was at the general election. No doubt DD’s apologists will claim that this is all the Labour Party’s fault for not standing a candidate (shame on us for not jumping when DD clicks his fingers!). But no amount of spin or argument can disguise the fact that the Haltemprice and Howden by-election has bee...

The polls have closed in Haltemprice and Howden, however, it will be some time before we hear the result. H&H is a rural constituency, so that will mean delays in getting all the boxes to the count in Anlaby. The counting staff will also have to have 26 piles of ballot papers. Rather them, than me. The result should be announced at around 2.00am, when I will be in the land of slumber. There has als...

The reason for my silence today is that I have been up in Haltemprice & Howden emulating Willie Whitelaw and stirring up apathy. Sunday is not an ideal day to campaign in a by-election, but it is the only day I had free. I've spent most of the afternoon leafleting in Willerby with a good team of volunteers, one of whom has flown in from Israel especially to help David Davis. You can't get much mor...
