I spotted this quote from David Davis this morning but LDV beat me to it: “I'm sorry that Labour and the Liberal Democrats funked it, but we're still having a good argument and getting the issue raised.? Both personally and professionally I've spent quite a lot of time defending Davis' actions, at least up to a point.

You've got to feel sorry for them, haven't you (hee hee). The Lib Dem leader Cleggy thinks he's doing a deal the principled thing and standing down to avoid David Davis embarrassing himself totally and losing his seat, and whadya know, the principled territorial SAS man goes and pisses on their chips: "I'm sorry that Labour and the Liberal Democrats funked it, but we're still having a good argumen...

David Davis caused more than a stir by resigning his seat to fight a by-election in Haltemprice and Howden - and now he is guaranteed a place in the records books.Despite Labour and the Liberal Democrats not fielding candidates, the contest on July 10 will set a new record for the largest number of candidates contesting a by-election.An (almost) A to Z of no fewer than 26 candidates are putting up...

I don't think any Liberal Democrat would usually find themselves supporting David Davis, he hasn't shown particular liberal credentials in the past but whether a PR stunt or an ill though out leadership bid or perhaps even a serious moral stand, David Davis should be supported in his by-election bid. The reasons are simple. For one it raises publicity for 42 days detention and at just the perfect ...

It seems that the Liberal Democrats want to get in on the action in giving the insensate Labour Party a good old electoral kicking. Nick Clegg has yesterday signalled a change in resources, directing them at 50 constituencies in the UK where the Liberal Democrats are lying second to the Labour in Westminster elections. Iain doing his usual to Labour (labour spin etc) but pitching in heavily for David Davis AND Ken Clarke in David Cameron’s juddering reshuffle. I wonder what Dominic Grieve thinks of that? There is no doubt in my mind that ConservativeHome reflects Conservative Party grass roots. And they want David Davis back. Let us see

Friday:Well Done to Mr Davis David for winning his seat back with only five-hundred-and-sixty-three votes FEWER than the Liberal Democrats got at the last proper election. In fact, the total turnout was only about a thousand higher than Mr Davis David's own vote last time. So it's POSSIBLE - in spite of (or because of) the long string of LOONIES and less serious candidates - that Conservatories wer...
