On Newsnight, last night, the Leader of the Commons came out with this wonderful line - "I am not saying I have got full confidence in anything or anybody." Hmm, bit expansive that, Ms Harman. No confidence in your boss? No confidence in our democracy? No confidence in science? It must be sad to have no confidence in anything..

Now here's a funny thing (as Max Miller would have said): Gordon Brown is apparently so fed up with Harriet Harman that there is a rumour that he is considering demoting her from the Cabinet, which would mean appointing someone else as Leader of the House of Commons.As the linked Spectator Coffee House article suggests, it probably won't happen; but it is interesting to watch all this going on,
